Can Several Old Pieces of Jewelry Be Combined Into One?

Direct answer

Often yes. Several old rings, chains or broken pieces can be melted down and cast into one new design, and any reusable stones can be pulled and set into it. The two things we confirm before starting are the metal — whether the pieces can be brought to a single workable karat — and the stones — which are reset by hand once their old settings come apart.

How old pieces become one new one

The natural path is the same one every custom piece takes. Our foundry runs silver and gold alloys under the same roof as the CAD and casting, so a pile of old gold can go into the melt and come out as a new cast design — melting and re-casting is standard, not a special favor. You can also keep an old piece recognizable and build around it, adding new metal, instead of a full remelt; which route fits depends on the design you want.

Metal purity is the honest complication. Old pieces arrive at different karats and colors — 14k, 18k, yellow and white — and you cannot cast incompatible alloys into one clean piece. The workable answer is to bring the metal to one consistent, workable karat for the new build before casting. Mixing gold and silver in a single piece is not something we pretend is straightforward.

Stones are the sentimental half. Intact stones can be removed from the old settings and reset into the new piece by hand under the microscope, the same way every setting here is done — but removal is not free of risk on every cut or worn setting, so not every stone can be assumed reusable. Because everything stays in one building, the chain of custody on your own materials is something you can actually ask us about.

More questions on this

Do you melt the gold down, or keep my pieces?+

Both are options. Old gold can be melted and cast into a new design, or you can keep a piece largely as-is and build around it with added metal — the route depends on the design you want.

Can I reuse the stones from my old pieces?+

Where a stone is intact, yes — we remove it from the old setting and reset it by hand. Removal carries some risk on certain cuts and worn settings, so reusing a given stone is a judgement call on each piece, not an automatic guarantee.

Does combining pieces change the karat?+

Old pieces arrive at different karats and colors, so we bring the metal to one consistent, workable karat for the new build rather than casting incompatible alloys together.
