Can I Modify an Existing Ring Design?

Direct answer

Yes. A ring you already own — or a design you like but want changed — can be modified: resized, restoned, its metal changed, its setting raised or lowered, or partly rebuilt around a stone you want to keep. We read the current piece into a CAD, plan the change as a manufacturable design, and you approve it before any work. The honest limits are structural — how much a given construction can take — which is exactly what we check at CAD.

What can be changed, and what constrains it

Modification is normal custom work, not a special favor. A photo or the ring itself is a starting point like any other: we read its design across shape, proportion, size and setting, then model the version you actually want. Easiest changes include sizing a solid band, swapping or adding stones, changing metal color or karat, re-tipping a worn setting, or rebuilding the shank while keeping the head. A worn or damaged original is often the reason — you are improving on it, not just repairing it.

The real constraints are engineering, and raising them early is the service. Hollow bands dent and resize poorly; a full eternity or pavé wrap has almost nowhere to add metal without disturbing the set stones; certain channel and bezel constructions limit how far a size can move. Whether your ring can be resized a given number of steps, or restoned at all, is a property of its construction — and the CAD stage is where we assess the specific piece.

As with every project here, you approve the modified design before we touch metal. That matters most on a modification, because you are changing something real: the read-back shows how the reworked ring will look and wear, what the new proportions mean for durability, and whether keeping your original stone is wise. So the decision is made against a model you confirmed, not a promise about your ring.

More questions on this

Can you keep my original stone when modifying the ring?+

Usually yes — an intact stone can be kept and reset into the reworked design; removal carries some risk on certain cuts, so we confirm it case by case before production.

Can any ring be resized or redesigned?+

Not any. Solid bands flex most; hollow, full-wrap eternity or some channel/bezel builds resist big changes. We assess your specific construction at CAD before committing.

Do I approve the redesign before you change my ring?+

Yes — nothing is cut or cast until you approve the CAD of the modified design, so you see the result before the original is altered.
