Can a Custom Ring Be Resized Later?

Direct answer

Usually yes — a solid ring can be sized up or down by a bench jeweler, and we build resizing allowance into the CAD from the start. The honest limits are construction and style: hollow bands, or pieces set all the way around (eternity bands, full pavé wraps, some bezels) are much harder or impossible to resize without damage, which is exactly what we raise before you approve the design.

What makes a ring resizeable — or not

Construction decides most of it. A solid shank costs more in metal and can take a lifetime of resizing; a hollow shank saves metal and cost but dents harder to repair and resizes poorly. That trade-off is an engineering decision made in the CAD stage, not a surprise after delivery — which is also where the resizing allowance itself gets designed in, because wall thickness and how a stone seat is built determine how much the ring can move later.

Style decides the rest. A band that is plain metal all the way around can be stretched or compressed. A band that is set with stones edge to edge — an eternity band, a full pavé wrap — has almost nowhere to add or remove metal without disturbing the setting, so big size moves are often out. Certain bezel and channel constructions share that limit.

Resizing is also just maintenance, and it is a normal, bookable charge rather than a defect fix — one of the honest 'watch for' line items on custom work. The move that protects you is the approval gate: because nothing is cast until you approve the CAD, the resizeability of your specific design is something we can point to and discuss before metal is involved, not discovered at delivery.

More questions on this

How many sizes can a custom ring be changed?+

It depends on construction and how the setting is built; a plain solid band moves more easily than a set band. We confirm the realistic range for your specific design at CAD, before production.

Is resizing free?+

No — resizing after delivery is a bench job charged as maintenance, like replating. It is one of the honest line items we flag up front rather than a warranty repair.

Which designs cannot be resized?+

Stones set edge to edge all the way around (eternity / full pavé wraps), many hollow bands, and some bezel or channel constructions. We raise these limits before you approve the design.
